Welcome to Comm Serv Link: The Handover
Welcome to our Community Service Handover video library — a collection of experiences, practical advice and resources shared by Community Service OTs and contributors over the past three years.
The aim is simple: to give you access to the experiences of OTs who have gone before you and help you find information, ideas and support that may be useful as you navigate your own Community Service year.
How to use this resource
There is no required order and no expectation that you watch every video.
Browse through the lessons below and choose the videos that are most relevant or interesting to you. You may want to:
- hear from OTs who completed Community Service in your province
- compare experiences across different provinces and settings
- pick up practical tips, resources and project ideas
- learn more about the public sector and National OT Forum
- return to particular videos later in your Community Service year as different questions arise.
This resource currently includes experiences from Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Free State and the Eastern Cape, as well as a presentation from Rogini Pillay on behalf of the National OT Forum.
Please share your experience too
There are two feedback opportunities included in the resource:
Course Evaluation
Please tell us which videos or information you found useful and what could make this resource more valuable for future Community Service OTs.
Community Service OT Survey
We would also really value your input into our survey exploring how Community Service OTs are settling into their placements, the challenges and successes you are experiencing, and the areas in which you would value further support, video learning or mentorship.
This information helps guide the development of future Com Serv Link learning and support resources and contributes to our ongoing exploration of the Community Service OT experience in South Africa.
CPD Information
Please note that Comm Serv Link: The Handover, is a free support and learning resource and is not accredited for HPCSA CPD points.
There are no assessments or required video hours. Simply explore the content that is useful to you.
We hope that somewhere in these shared experiences you find an idea, a resource, an answer — or simply the reminder that other Community Service OTs have navigated many of the same challenges before you.
